How to Plan?
PAX & Men of Central Ohio,
Most of the men that wake up and drag themselves to an F3 Beatdown are expecting the Q (leader) to have a plan. The Plan is what determines the outcome. We don’t start with an outcome and expect a plan to fall in place, we start with a plan and the outcome is the fulfillment of that plan.
On March 18th, “HAPPY 6 Months F3 Columbus” we started with a single plan. Workout for 60 mins & meet someone. As different guys Q a workout they come with a plan to get 10-25 guys moving. So, How to Plan? Not trying to over simplify the planning process but over the past 6 months it has become obvious to me the key to planning in general. Planning a workout, Planning a birthday party, Planning a happy hour, Planning a development, Planning a business, or Planning for your family. Needs the following:
- Big Picture: Have a big picture goal for your plan. It wouldn’t be a plan if it didn’t have a goal. So start with a solid big picture goal.
- Adaptable: How you get to the big picture goal has got to be Adaptable. The key to a good plan is adaptability! Like “Teach’s Free Rider” last Wednesday. You’ve got to be able to adapt your plan on the fly. This takes knowing your big picture goal and having the courage to “cut hard” change directions when needed.
- Humbly Push: You’ve got to Push your vision, Push the PAX, Push the family, Push the community, Push the team toward your Big Picture. But Push with openness referring to point 2. Be Adaptable to the limits of those you’re pushing. Humbly Push them by pushing yourself toward the big picture along side them!
- Don’t Quit: Like every workout there comes a point of “Q blackout” where you’re adapting for the big picture goal and humbly pushing the PAX and in turn pushing yourself beyond your ability. In these moments don’t allow fatigue or negative voices to drive you back. When something looks like failure find that lining, find that one thing, that one person, or that one highlight that can encourage the whole. Pick up the 6 and remember how far you’ve come, celebrate how far they have come, and don’t quit.
What is your Big Picture Goal? Personally mine revolves around “legacy!” What sort of legacy will I create for those who knew me? That leads to other picture goals that I’ve got to adapt, humbly push, and not quit.
Let F3 Columbus be a place that helps you to set goals, adapt, humbly push you, and encourages you when you want to quit!

Bo Schembechler
