Doing what you need to do. Even when your mind tells you not to do it.

From F3 Columbus Newsletter on Wed, Jul 26, 2023 - Today was a rough one for me. I posted at Camp Willis (in Upper Arlington) for The Runs. Something I do most Wednesdays, but this one hit a little different than most.

Life has been a little hectic lately. My business is in a stressful state and we had a cat run out of the house a week ago so my days have been full of ups and downs while my nights have been full of long walks around Grandview with a bag of treats and a flashlight.

Back to my morning..I wanted to make sure I posted this morning for the work out. I fartsacked a couple earlier in the week due to lack of sleep, so I was determined to show up today. I was a minute late, but I made it.

After a couple miles of a Quick 6 run with some pretty quick PAX, that negative voice in my head started getting louder and louder. Before I knew it I was trailing off in the back, running what felt like miles just to get back to the front of the line, and a couple of times I just stopped in a yard as the group kept going.

"When you see men fall, don't laugh. Learn..."

This speech from Louis Farrakhan is in a song off of hip-hop artist Killer Mike's latest album called Michael.

The song is about being addicted to drugs and at the end this vocal sample plays. So what does this have to do with my struggle this morning? I've always been the guy to keep pushing myself and others to keep moving during those early morning beatdowns. I remember a time in my life when my head was on straight, business was growing, my wife and son were bettering themselves, everything was great. Those were the days when I was in a good headspace and stopping in the middle of a workout wasn't an option.

Today I saw the other side of that coin and I hated it. When you show up to a workout, there's more than one way to show up. Physically and mentally. Thankfully, I showed up and had a group of great men to keep me going and to remind me that you can flip the coin back over whenever you want. You just have to see yourself where you are and where you want to be. Then make the flip.

If you're going through some tough times or feel that you've hit that obstacle that you just can't seem to get over, there's a group of guys that you should see early in the morning to get your mind right. Everything else will follow.
